Temecula sits well inland, behind the hills, and what shapes appliance failures here is not steady heat so much as the size of the daily swing. Afternoons run hot and dry. Then, most evenings through the summer, cooler air pulls in from the west through the gap in the hills, the same breeze the vineyards were planted for, and a kitchen can drop a long way in two hours. Refrigeration does not care about a daily average. It cares about the worst hour, and then it gets a cool night to make the ground back up. That is precisely why a failing condenser hides for months in this valley: it catches up overnight, the display looks respectable at breakfast, and nobody sees a number that is genuinely wrong until August.

The second thing that is different here is how much wine storage there is per household. In a lot of kitchens a wine cabinet is an extra. In this valley it is often the appliance the owner cares about most, and it is frequently more than one: a dual-zone column in the kitchen, an undercounter cabinet in the bar, sometimes a run of them in a room built for the purpose. That changes the priority of a call rather than just the parts list. A refrigerator that has gone warm costs a week of groceries. A wine column sitting five degrees high for a month costs something that cannot be replaced by going shopping.
